Military training experts from Tapestry Solutions, a Boeing Company, played a vital role in the success of Saber Strike 18 – a large-scale U.S. Army-Europe led exercise held June 3-15 that involved 18,000 military personnel and nearly two dozen partner nations. The long-standing exercise, conducted by the 7th Army Training Command (7th ATC), helped facilitate cooperation among the U.S., Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and 17 other allied and partner nations.
Working alongside industry partners, Tapestry’s experts provided onsite Mission Command Training & Simulation (MCTS) support at training areas in Estonia and Latvia, with a focus on computer-based simulation. They also provided logistical coordination and support at the Joint Multinational Simulation Center (JMSC), headquartered in Grafenwoehr, Germany.
“We are proud to have the opportunity to provide ongoing mission-critical services for 7th ATC training events through a combination of live, virtual, constructive and gaming simulations,” said Debbie Churchill, Vice President, Mission Product Services, Tapestry Solutions.
“Saber Strike is among numerous multinational exercises that Tapestry supports annually in Europe, Africa and beyond – all of which are designed to ensure the highest level of readiness and cooperation among U.S., NATO and partner nations, which in turn, sets the conditions for peace,” she added.
For Saber Strike 18, the Tapestry team provided scenario development, exercise control and managed the Master Scenario Event List (MSEL). The team provided their usual simulation training for U.S. and multinational unit response cells during the event – as well as Opposing Forces (OPFOR) computer-based simulation support on behalf of JMSC using the Conflict and Tactical Resolution (JCATS) model.
The simulation provides constructive data to Army Mission Command Systems and input through other means to command posts in the field to simulate the combat environment. Additionally, Tapestry supported unmanned aerial vehicle emulation simulation training in a Multiple Unified Simulation Environment, known as MUSE.
Work is being performed under the MCTS contract, awarded in 2017, which is potentially worth $58 million over five years. MCTS is a follow-on to the JMSC Battle Simulation Training (BST) contract that was awarded in 2011. As the prime contractor for MCTS, Tapestry leads a team that includes Capstone, Metro Productions and VATC (Visual Awareness Technology & Consulting, Inc.).
From May 2017 through June 2018, the Tapestry team supported training for approximately 50,000 military personnel across two dozen nations, according to Randy Hanes, Tapestry’s onsite program manager for the MCTS contract.
This included nearly three dozen exercises at JMRC/ JMSC – as well as over-the-shoulder support for numerous gaming events – across all four training areas in Germany, Italy, Poland and the Ukraine.
In addition to Saber Strike, Tapestry provides training support for large-scale, multinational exercises including Dynamic Front, Allied Spirit, Rapid Trident, Saber Guardian, Saber Junction, and Swift Response. With an emphasis on interoperability, the multinational training exercises teach participating nations how to communicate and operate together effectively, despite differences in capabilities, terminology and traditions.
