SAN DIEGO, September 2016 – As the 2016 MCAS Miramar Air Show kicked off its centennial celebration, Tapestry Solutions President and CEO Robin Wright announced that Boeing’s Global Corporate Citizenship program will donate $260,000 to several San Diego organizations that provide vital support to veterans, their families and educators.
Wright presented the lump-sum grant to the following community partners: Hire Heroes USA, Workshop for Warriors, San Diego State University Campanile Foundation, Ocean Discovery Institute, San Diego County of Education – Arts Empower San Diego, and San Diego Youth Symphony and Conservatory. Boeing will provide grants to these innovative organizations through 2017.
The presentation, held Sept. 23, fittingly took place against the backdrop of the country’s largest military air show – in tandem with Boeing’s centennial anniversary. The MCAS Miramar Air Show was celebrating 100 years of the Marine Corps Reserve with an impressive lineup of military and civilian performers, including the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, during the three-day venue.
On hand for opening remarks in the Boeing chalet were MCAS Commanding Officer Colonel Jason Woodworth and Major General Mark Wise, who thanked Boeing for its advocacy and support of military and veteran-specific programs.
Presiding over the ceremony was Ward Wilson, manager of the Boeing San Diego office and 2016 president of the San Diego Military Advisory Council.
Wright noted that Boeing – the world’s largest aerospace company – has a long-standing commitment to supporting our men and women in uniform by employing more than 20,000 veterans.
“Most of our passion to support the warfighter comes from our veterans – I’ve seen it in action,” he said. “They provide us with first-hand knowledge on how to make our products better for the warfighter. Veterans are vital to our success.”
